My education has taken me from a foundation in the sciences through to medicine, surgery, biomedical engineering, and design.

Education and Clinical Training

  • Bachelor of Science (Honours)

I attended Ontario Tech University (University of Ontario Institute of Technology) from 2009 - 2013. I graduated with a Bachelor of Science (Honours) in Life Sciences. I was awarded the Faculty of Science Medal for obtaining the highest grade-point average in the Faculty of Science among the graduating class.

  • Doctor of Medicine

I attended the Schulich School of Medicine & Dentistry, Western University (University of Western Ontario) from 2013 - 2017, graduating with a Doctor of Medicine degree. I focused my clinical education in the field of General Surgery, completing elective rotations across Canada and the United States.

  • General Surgery

In 2017, I joined the General Surgery Residency training program at the University of Toronto. In 2019, I paused my clinical training to pursue a PhD in Biomedical Engineering at the University of Toronto. I returned to clinical rotation in July 2022, and completed my training in June 2025. This developed my expertise in the management of a variety of surgical fields including acute care surgery, hepatobiliary surgery, colorectal surgery, breast surgery, endocrine surgery, trauma surgery, and bariatric surgery.

I am a Fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons of Canada, and am a board-certified General Surgeon by the American Board of Surgery.

  • Doctor of Philosophy, Biomedical Engineering

From 2019 - 2022, I joined the Surgeon Scientist-Training Program and the University of Toronto Institute of Biomedical Engineering to complete my PhD. I was jointly supervised by Dr. Gang Zheng and Dr. Fayez Quereshy. My dissertation focused on cancer nanomedicine, phototherapy, and colorectal cancer.

My graduate research produced over 30 peer-reviewed publications, a patented invention, a textbook chapter, and a textbook of surgical skills.

  • Colon & Rectal Surgery Fellowship

I completed my clinical fellowship in Colon & Rectal Surgery at the University of Minnesota between 2025 and 2026 as the Chief Fellow. Here, I gained sub-specialty expertise in the surgical management of inflammatory bowel disease, diverticular disease, colorectal cancer, anorectal disease, and pelvic floor disorders. I gained significant skills in robotic approaches to complement my existing open and laparoscopic skills.

Additional Certificates
